MISSION STATEMENT

January 2022

The KSSI, incorporating the Knysna CCTV Project, is a forum made up of various Neighbourhood Watches, Homeowners Associations, Allsound Security, and other bodies with safety & security interests, in Greater Knysna (including Sedgefield).

A crucial working relationship to combat crime in Knysna
A crucial working relationship to combat crime in Knysna

The objectives of the forum are to;

  • Regularly share information between members regarding criminal activity and thereby develop appropriate prevention strategies as well as support each other when called for.  The various member bodies continue with their individual daily roles in their own areas, while at the same time pooling together by participating in KSSI.
  • Assist where possible + practical, with the establishment and growth of Neighbourhood and Farm Watches in areas that do not enjoy such community-based participation yet and assist them to grow into self-sustaining units.  This ultimately includes assistance in the poorer areas of Knysna that can ill afford to fund desperately needed safety & security measures on their own.
  • Promote a good and constructive working relationship with crucial safety & security partners the Knysna CPF, Knysna SAPS, Knysna Municipality and Knysna SanParks.  This extends to regular participation in joint safety & security meetings and activity, providing KSSI input and support where possible.
  • Without infringing on the good work of the Knysna CPF, enter into constructive dialogue with other safety & security role players, both local and broader, in order to encourage the beneficial participation of such organisations in the safety & security of the residents, visitors, business owners, and properties in the Knysna area.
  • To raise money by diverse means, for the purpose of enhancing current safety & security infrastructure already in place in the KSSI network, but also to assist in resource enhancement of our primary safety & security partners (as listed in 3) above).  Projects to be determined and driven by the KSSI executive of the day, reporting back to the broader membership.
  • To promote and foster a constructive relationship between KSSI members and members of the general public, and to encourage the general public to become ever more aware of, and participate in, the aims of the KSSI.

It is a goal to continually expand the membership of this platform to include all formal safety & security members around greater the Knysna area and to assist in developing better security participation in our poorer areas.  It must be borne in mind that the member NHWs, HOA’s etc all continue their day-to-day security work as before, thus KSSI is a separate entity and is not superior to any member in this regard.
